now stranded hosting

Update 9/22:

MailChannels Support finally got back in touch about noon and realized what had happened, restored services, and offered their sincere apologies. We had a constructive exchange concerning some improvements that they may wish to consider in their escalation processes going forward.

Original 9/21:

So a few days ago, I get an email, saying it is about my MailChannels bill, only the mail headers weren't MailChannels, and the link certainly wasn't. So I logged a ticket with MailChannels support to ask if it was phishing. A few hours go by and they say it looks like their vendor, but they would have billing take a look. Sounds OK, just not the best presentation of the bill, but looks legit.

But it goes downhill from there, At 5:30p today I get an email saying "It is possible that someone used your email address to sign up for a MailChannels account without your knowledge. They also seem to have used your credit card to charge $79.99 on 08/23. If you can confirm the last four digits of your credit card number, I will correlate this with our records. In any case, we will refund the charges." and "I'm confirming that we have terminated the account that was signed up using your credit card and email address. We have also refunded the charges back to your card. It may take several days before the refund shows up on your statement."

No calling, no emailing, NOTHING to confirm what I had asked or what I was reporting. I never said I didn't sign up, I just asked about the email I was sent as it fit a perfect phishing email (below) and my original query.

I'm extra upset as this email literally came in as my husband found our elderly diabetic cat barely responsive and I was trying to address this issue and thus missed out on making final farewells, as my husband took him to our vet by himself.  Additionally, in couple of days, it will be the first anniversary of the passing of one of our other cats, who was only fourteen months old, and passed very unexpectedly.

Phishing : the fraudulent practice of sending emails or other messages purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers.

I got an email today from that purported to be from mail channels - but it went to the email acct I used when I initially created the account, not the email address I later updated the account to use, so I'm a little concerned. The link in the email pointed to a chargify url not a mailchannels url, so that is also strange.
